Yep, that’s right. Travelin’ Fools has officially been up and running for a whole year. Heyo! If this blog were a baby, it would be mumbling adorable nonsense and shitting its pants right now.

Travelin’ Fools Turns One

So much has changed since I first decided to write a travel blog. This time last year, we were living in Costa Rica, attempting to find steady jobs, drinking Pilsens all day everyday, practicing our español, playing in the pool, going on long bus rides full of adventure and sweat, and deciding whether or not to break our lease and move to Maui. After coming to a bit of a standstill with my other blog, Paging Doctor Love, which I still dearly dig, I knew I wanted to continue writing, just about something less depressing than breathalyzers and bad dates. Also, after finding little to no practical information about how to move to Costa Rica as a human under the age of 50, I figured that was as good a place to start as any. Enter Travelin’ Fools.

While Paging Doctor Love was more about having an outlet to vent and share somewhat funny stories of woe, I’d like this blog to actually help people make important choices about moving. And traveling. And life. Do I miss all of my best good friends and family back in Texas? Absolutely. Do I ever get antsy thinking about what the hell I’m going to do next? Duh. Do I ever freak out that I live on a relatively small rock in the middle of the damn Pacific Ocean? Actually, no. Do I ever regret deciding to pack up my life and meeting, seeing and doing as many new things in new places as possible? Hell nah, bro.

So what’s next for Travelin’ Fools?

Well, I don’t really know. Eventually I’d like to make this blog my full time job, but seeing as how I’ve earned approximately zero pennies and cannot survive solely on carpal tunnel and air, I need to find a way to make this blog into a business. I know it can be done. I know this because it’s been done and continues to be done by more and more people everyday. In fact, since you’ve started reading this post, 12 and a half writers have probably made their blog a legit business. But I’m better than them. You’ll see.

So here’s what I’m asking… if and when you read something on this site that you find useful/rad/interesting/amusing/helpful/thebestthingyouveeverread, do me a solid and help spread the word. The more opportunities for people to read my writing and see Peter’s stellar photo skills, the better equipped we are to keep going, doing and putting out good information.

In the meantime, I will be celebrating the one year anniversary of travel blogging with a sandy bottle of champagne and some Wu-Tang. Hey, that rhymes! You’re invited as long as you bring something salty with a side of Ranch dressing. You can take the girl out of Texas…

I don’t say this enough, but thank you for taking the time to read my words. Y’all rock more than spooning and melted butter.
