A few months ago, I wrote an article about the Top 10 Most Luxurious Things to Do on Maui. While writing about 10 fancy fun things I cannot afford to do may sound like a bummer, rest assured that drinking a bottle of $11 white wine on the beach made me feel okay about it.
Fancy Fun: Maui Roadsters
On the list was renting a 1957 Porsche Speedster Convertible, and as the best thank you anyone can possibly receive for including a new business in a couple of blog posts, Maui Roadsters offered us a complimentary day rental of one of their fleet of Porsche Speedster reproductions. Umm, RAD. Super rad.
We picked up our silver fox with red interior, whom I shall call Lady Lolita Hot Stuffs (Lo for short), left our comparatively sad looking Camry on the side of the street and hit the road. Since the car is manual and I have not driven a stick since I was 16, and barely did it then, I let Peter do the driving while I focused on equally important things, like looking way cooler than everyone else riding in a car.
We took a drive on the Pali Highway, a two lane winding road along ocean cliffs and mountain sides, and stopped for some quick high elevation pics before grabbing lunch and receiving several car-envy stares and you-must-have-really-rich-parents inquiries.
After lunch, and because when given the opportunity to drive a Porsche for the day you should drive it everywhere you possibly can, we took a journey to Upcountry Maui to explore the gorgeous hood of Kula and Ulupalakua Ranch. The high elevation views, rolling green hills and much cooler temperatures are utterly badass, and you shouldn’t come to Maui without driving the back side of the Road to Hana that takes you directly through here.
For sunset, we made our way back down to sea level and went South to La Perouse, the site of the last lava flow on Maui that occurred in 1786. Some fishermen and fellow sunset-lovers were taking up all the good parking, however, so we went to Makena Landing instead. There’s not a bad view of the sunset if you’re near the water in South Maui. There’s just not.
Sadly, after a day of fancy fun, we dropped off sexy ass Lo and reclaimed Pale, our trusty white Camry that is decidedly less awesome. If you enjoy looking super fly and treating yo’self in paradise, check out Maui Roadsters and their fleet of baller cars and thank us later.
Big mahalo to Leah for letting us take out Lo and providing such excellent service! This must be what Rihanna feels like every day…
