This year was the 34th annual World Whale Day in Kihei, Maui, honoring the humpback whales that come to Hawaii each year. The event consists of a parade, carnival, food vendors, live music, art, local crafts and goods, and this year in particular, an intense amount of sweating on one of the hottest days I can remember. Mick Fleetwood (of Fleetwood Mac) was the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade, leading it off with a horse drawn carriage along with the Mayor of Maui, Alan Arakawa.

“Shaka” Doug, our roommate and owner of Shaka Divers, has his own Whale Day float and has been named the winner of the parade more than 12 times, thanks to a trailer of hot-chick “Double-Bubble Mermaids” in tow behind his fantastic scuba school bus, which, may I mention, shoots bubbles!

Here are some photos of the event, once again captured by sir boyfriend Peter Rimkus of Two Tank Photo, his photography business!
